Have been asked by a lot of customers about “ how to let the China Android tablet PC work with the local 3G dongle”. Also, seeing a lot complaints on forums as below,

 

1.                               “Hey, i recently bought a Rockchip 2808 Dual Core Android Tablet PC with 720p HDMI out WI-FI and 3G from Amazon ( Rockchip 2808 Dual Core Android Tablet PC with 720p HDMI out WI-FI and 3G: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories ) one of the main reasons i bought it was because the description said "WI- FI and 3G data connections" i then went and purchased a o2 Mobile Broadband MF100 Dongle, pay & go. When i insert the dongle in the usb slot on my Tablet:
1. The Dongle light turns red
2. Then i receive a notification saying "Damaged USBMassStorage"
3. then the dongle light turns green

Some forum answered by setting the APN in the tablet PC, some answered it cannot be used due to the geographic issue. Are they true? Not exactly, To make sure your dongle can work with tablet PC, you have to understand

1.       The china OEM tablet PC industrial structure,

2.       The dongle models and its 3G frequency

3.       The frequency of dongle used in your country

 

1.       Understand The china OEM tablet PC industrial structure

 

In China tablet PC industry, every production process is independent business. They can be separated into CPU maker, software and PCBA house, SMT factory, Component factories and assemble factories

 

CPU makers manufacture the CPU, not software inside. Like Amlogic, Rockchips, Telepchips, Freescale….they seldom develop their own software and tablet PC for themselves, except Samsung (That is also the reason I will write a article to explain never order a OEM Samsung tablet PC later).

 

Software and PCBA houses use the code provided by the CPU companies to write the firmware and design the PCBA layout. Main job for them is to provide services to assemble factories. They seldom sell to the tablet PC buyer directly.

 

SMT factory, doing the SMT following the design of software and PCBA house. Main job is to provide Surface mount (SMT) services, detailed can be seen at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface-mount_technology

 

Component factories, charger, LCD, TP….. Normally around bunch of 50 components to assemble a tablet PC

 

Assemble factories, combining PCBA after SMT and all components, also doing the QC on the finished product. You may justices the quality requirement of the assemble factory by looking at their QC equipments. Like heating room, vibration machine, GSM frequency simulator…

 

After we understand the china OEM tablet PC industrial structure, now we know

 

Same CPU does not represent same tablet PC, it may come from the different Software and PCBA houses, so the firmware or even the hardware are different

 

Same Software and PCBA houses does not mean the quality is same, as the assemble factories may use different components or conducting different level of QC

 

SO next time Let’s say, we see a tablet PC of Rockchips on the Aliababa or Amazon.com, even the CPU, out looking, packing and all specification are same, we will be aware there may not be necessary same. Epad or Apad is not from one factories, in China, thousands of assemble factories can produce same CPU, same out looking, same packing and same specification Epadd/ Apad.
